Abstract:
This research focused on the transfer of Islamic epigraphical patterns, used for decorative purposes, to western Christian art. It allowed the identification of Arabic expressions in debased signs previously regarded as mere ornamentation or mocking Arabic letters. The identification of these texts in Italian art, through the comparison with movable Arabic epigraphy, has provided new results on the transmission and perception of the East in the western arts.
