Abstract:
The communication problem among the Slavs, whose languages are often said to be enormously similar to each other, has not been solved so far in spite of different proposals as for example introducing Russian (or English) as a lingua franca. There is another kind of ideas, which, however, has always been vastly neglected by Slavic linguistics: Slavic constructed languages. The first, very general aim of this essay is to draw the reader’s attention to the plenty of different projects that have been thought of from the 17th century until today. The second, more specific aim is to find a practicable classification of the most important projects and to answer the question why Slavic constructed languages are interesting for Slavic linguistics today.
