Tanja Prohl is a researcher in Romance linguistics based at the University of Bamberg, where she has served as a fixed-term Assistant Professor since April 2025. She has been affiliated with the Department of Romance Linguistics since 2016, including roles as a research associate alongside her teacher training (2020–2024). She received her PhD (Dr. phil., summa cum laude) in 2019. Her doctoral research was supported by a fellowship from the Hanns-Seidel Foundation and conducted within the Bamberg Graduate School of Linguistics. Her current habilitation project examines the use of the present perfect across the Romance languages. It aims to develop a model grounded in cognitive linguistics and construction grammar that accounts for language-specific usage while enabling cross-varietal comparison.
Her academic background includes a First State Examination for teaching at secondary level (French and Spanish) and a BA in French, Spanish, and Political Science from the University of Bamberg, as well as an Erasmus stay at Université Michel de Montaigne Bordeaux 3. In addition to her research activities, she has taught Romance linguistics and subject didactics, including a teaching appointment at the University of Würzburg (2025). Her work has received recognition through awards for innovative teaching (VdB Nachwuchspreis, 2nd place, 2023) and a student nomination for excellence in teaching (2022).
