Abstract:
It is an anomaly and very amazing to talk about the deficiency of women theologians in a nation where almost 80% are Christians and more than half of it are women. This means that the women’s voice is lacking in most of these theologies. This chapter aims at analysing the theological journey of Isabel Apawo Phiri and how her journey has contributed towards the liberative theologies. The chapter draws on a qualitative narrative research design in which data were collected through oral interviews with the matriarch, storytelling, biographies and literature review. It shows that Phiri has contributed to theologies of liberation through her publications where she has profoundly condemned all kinds of women oppression but also through her sharing of liberating and empowering ways to women by rereading the Bible from their own perspective. She has also explored a strong theoretical framework on the liberation of women, social inclusion and gender equality. Her profession and academic success as a professor is also a commendable contribution since both men and women have benefited from her liberative theological lecturing.
