Wohnkosten machen für die meisten Haushalte den größten Teil der regelmäßig notwendigen Ausgaben aus, variieren mit der Wohnungsgröße und sind abhängig vom Einkommen eine unterschiedlich starke finanzielle Belastung. Und obwohl Einkommen und Wohnflächenbedarf mit der Familiensituation zusammenhängen, werden Wohnkosten in der Familienberichterstattung bisher wenig thematisiert. Diese Lücke schließt der vorliegende Beitrag mit einer deskriptiven Analyse der Wohnkostensituation und der Wohlfahrtsvorteile durch eingesparte Wohnkosten nach Familienform. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass Haushalte mit Kindern, besonders Alleinerziehende, stärker durch Wohnkosten belastet sind und die Armutsgefährdungsquote für Haushalte ohne Kinder leicht sinkt, wenn eingesparte Wohnkosten als Einkommenskomponente berücksichtigt werden, während sie für Haushalte mit Kindern leicht steigt.

For most households, housing costs make up the largest part of the regular expenditure, vary with dwelling size and are a financial burden of varying degrees depending on income. Although income and living space requirements are related to the family situation, housing costs have so far received little attention in family reporting. This article closes the gap with a descriptive analysis of the housing cost situation and the welfare benefits from saved housing costs by family type. Results show that households with children, especially single parents, are more burdened by housing costs than households without children and that the risk-of-poverty of the latter slightly decreases when saved housing costs are taken into account as an income component, while it slightly increases for households with children.
