Abstract:
The loss of biodiversity as one of the central challenges nowadays still receives little public attention. Not only has the biodiversity of pollinators declined tremendously due to habitat loss and pesticide use (Patel et al., 2021), but the number of species experts themselves is also decreasing (Christ & Dreesmann, 2022). What contribution can Science Education make to foster “Gestaltungs”-competence (de Haan, 2006) in the context of an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)? Here we present the development and evaluation of a digital and intelligent specification app of the insect group of wild bees and wasps using nesting aids. This app is a central component of a citizen science project to establish a nationwide biomonitoring at schools and universities.
