Abstract:
This dissertation investigates the influence of non-cognitive factors – specifically conscientiousness and self-esteem – within academic and professional contexts. It consists of three empirical studies. The first study examines the interplay of intelligence and conscientiousness in predicting school grades. The second study investigates changes in conscientiousness during adolescence and the influence of intelligence on these changes. The third paper analyses changes in self-esteem during career entry. The results indicate that students with higher intelligence particularly benefit from conscientiousness, while those with lower intelligence exhibit greater increases in conscientiousness over time.
Additionally, a successful career entry is associated with positive changes in self-esteem among young adults.
