Wirnt von Grafenberg’s Wigalois is characterised, among other things, by the special quality of the narrated atmosphere. In research, this has already been explained in detail. However, the sounds, which contribute significantly to the at mosphere of the narrated world, have received very little attention so far. In our article we analyse one aspect of Klangregie (i. e. the narrator’s handling of acoustic elements) that is a constitutive element of many soundscapes in Wigalois. This is the phenomenon of ›off-screen voices‹ that accompany the protagonist on his path and repeatedly influence him.
