1989 endete mit dem Zusammenbruch der DDR auch deren zentralplanwirtschaftliches Konzept der Wirtschaftslenkung. Die Gründe hierfür werden anhand von Dokumenten aus dem Hause der 'Revisions- und Treuhandgesellschaft für die sowjetische Besatzungszone in Deutschland (RTA)' dargelegt - Quellen aus der Anfangszeit sozialistischer Zentralplanwirtschaft in Deutschland, die hier erstmals zur Auswertung kommen. Von Mai 1948 bis Dezember 1949 war die RTA zuständig für die Prüfung der verstaatlichten, nunmehr als 'volkseigen' bezeichneten Betriebe. Ein Vergleich ihrer Prüfungsberichte mit der Forschungsliteratur zum Niedergang der DDR-Wirtschaft offenbart den systembedingten Charakter aufzuzeigender Funktionsmängel der sozialistischen Zentralplanwirtschaft in der SBZ/DDR.

The collapse of the German Democratic Republic in 1989 also brought about the end of its concept of a centrally planned economy by governmental control. The causes of such collapse are shown by making reference to documents of the 'Revisions- und Treuhandgesellschaft für die sowjetische Besatzungszone in Deutschland (RTA)' (Auditing and Trust Company for the Soviet Occupation Zone in Germany) - source material from the beginning of socialist centrally planned economy in Germany, which has been analyzed for the first time. From May 1948 until December 1949, the RTA was responsible for the audit of nationalized enterprises, which were subsequently called 'volkseigen' (collective property). A comparison of the RTA audit reports and the research literature dealing with the fall of the East German economy reveals the system-related character of functional deficiencies shown to be inherent in the socialist centrally planned economy in the Soviet Occupation Zone/German Democratic Republic.
