In diesem Stichwortbeitrag wird das Diskurs- und Forschungsfeld „Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ (BNE) ausgeleuchtet. Angesichts des heterogenen Feldes wird die Forschung aus drei Perspektiven zusammengefasst: Es wird zunächst ein historischer Zugriff auf die unterschiedlichen Entwicklungsstränge von BNE gewählt. Zweitens wird das Feld anhand der Sinndimensionen nach N. Luhmann erschlossen. Drittens wird der Forschungsstand mit Hilfe des Angebot-Nutzungs-Modell sortiert, wobei exemplarisch Forschungsergebnisse berichtet werden. Deutlich wird, dass sich das Forschungsfeld intensiv entwickelt, aber bisher nur in einzelnen Feldern stabile Befunde vorliegen. Empirische bildungswissenschaftliche Forschung, bessere Verknüpfung von Forschungsdiskursen sowie eine jeweils klare selbstreflexive Verortung im Feld werden als Strategien zur Weiterentwicklung des Feldes benannt.

This keyword article sheds light on the discourse and research field of “Education for Sustainable Development” (ESD). In view of the heterogeneous nature of the field, the research is summarised from three perspectives: Firstly, a historical approach to the different strands of ESD development is chosen. Secondly, the field is analysed on the basis of N. Luhmann’s dimensions of meaning. Thirdly, the state of research is sorted using the offer-utilisation model by presenting exemplary research results. It is visible that the field of research is developing intensively, but that only a few stable findings are available to date. Empirical educational research, better links between research strands and a clear self-reflective localisation in the field are named as strategies for the further development of the research field.
