Nonetheless, the interest in and validity of studies of 'language in time and space' continues unabated and, with this digital version, we would like to offer open access to the contributions that were written for the original printed version in 1997. Wolfgang Viereck died on 4th September 2018 at the age of 81 and his legacy within the field of English Linguistics remains with us today. Fortunately, much of the material from the festschrift published on the occasion of his 60th birthday has been preserved electronically.
