The goal of the CASoRL is to facilitate and inspire future research on different modes of social regulation of learning. CASoRL is aimed at analyzing conversation data from a variety of sources. CASoRL is the only coding scheme that differentiates between more than three modes of social regulation of learning. Comparable instruments focus on the identification of socially shared regulation and some also assess one or two additional modes of regulation. CASoRL was developed for the analysis of group discussion in collaborative learning with regard to different modes of social regulation of learning. The range of possible research questions is diverse. All research questions that need an in-depth analysis of the mode of regulation being applied can be studied with CASoRL. CASoRL is intended for all kinds of group discussion data from collaborative learning, stemming from both computer-based and face-to-face communication.
