For a long time, religion, mainly African Traditional Religions, were studied as independent phenomena, unconnected to other social reality. However, today, there is increasing recognition of the intricate relationship between religious practices and other social phenomena and the corresponding need to undertake the study of ATRs within the larger context of other societal factors.
