The syntax addresses two major aspects. First, as the NEPS SC6 has not been systematically edited and cleaned by the data producers, the syntax provides extensive cleaning procedures with respect to life‐course information on educational participation and attainment, labor market participation and earnings. Second, while the data cleaning is accomplished in the long format, the syntax also provides code to transfer the data into an information‐by‐age format (wide format). This means that – for every respondent – agespecific variables provide information on educational attainment or labor market outcomes at a given age. For some further operations (e.g. imputation), storing longitudinal information in this wide format can be preferable. In addition, this format might be more intuitive for users who are not familiar with the handling of spell data or data in long format.engeducationlabor market informationstarting cohort 6data cleaningage‐specific information300Construction of an Information‐by‐Age Dataset Based on Starting Cohort 6 of the National Educational Panel Study Containing Education and Employment Trajectories across the Life Courseworkingpaper10.5157/NEPS:SP120:1.0
