As a result, English teachers are required to promote English language skills and global citizenship education (GCE) in their classrooms. Several studies have illustrated that immersive virtual reality (iVR) learning environments can promote language learning and pro-environmental behaviour. Thus, there is a strong case for using iVR in the context of GCE and English language education. However, iVR technology is not yet widely used in Germany, and therefore, teachers lack the necessary skills to use it efficiently. Consequently, as part of the DiSo-SGW project, we aim to develop, test, and implement research-based teacher training modules, focusing on empowering English language teachers to use iVR for GCE.
